What are helpful facts about Waterproofing Primer?
The use of a waterproofing primer on a substrate, particularly felt or asphalt, means that the liquid coating will spread more easily. Priming also helps to decrease the amount of porosity, dust and air-entrapment (pin hole) which can cause blistering on the waterproofing membrane after it has cured.
Seal-Krete Original Waterproofing Primer/Sealer is a clear, waterborne acrylic sealer, primer and binder for vertical concrete, brick, adobe, limestone, masonry and stucco surfaces. It improves paint adhesion, seals chalky surfaces and can be used to help prevent efflorescence, erosion, spalling and rotting.
Ideally a surface should be completely dry before any waterproofing coating is applied. However, it is possible to apply a primer on a moist substrate. This is because the mixture of water in the primer allows it to be absorbed by the substrate.
Specialised primers are often needed for some surfaces, especially TPO and EPDM. TPO is a black rubber type compound which reflects sunlight, whereas EPDM is a blend of polypropylene and ethylene propylene rubber that absorbs heat more effectively.
This product is designed to offer the best start to masonry projects. It penetrates deeply into concrete pores, binding sand and cement particles to form a tough, flexible breathable film. It strengthens mortar joints, reduces efflorescence on brick and rejuvenates color on older painted surfaces like vinyl siding and stucco. This primer is non-hazardous, non-staining and low odor. It also cleans up easily with soap and water.
